Armed Forces Day 5K May 21st Update

Update:
We are looking forward to tomorrows race. The weather report is no rain till later in the day.Come join us in this First Annual Armed Forces Day Race. Registration and packet pick up begins at 7:30am. Online Registration is open till 7PM Friday night. http://ArmedForcesDay5KatCalverton.itsyourrace.com/
Happy to see veterans of all branched will be participating.
We can use more volunteers, particularly on the water stops.
Volunteers sign in at 7am for assignments. Race starts at 9am.
See you tomorrow at the Veterans Memorial Park at Calverton! Sign in will be at the eastern side of the parking lot.

We are getting close to our May 21st race at Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton! First Annual! Register today. $25
Island Running Club Members, Veterans and Active Service register for $15.
5 year age groups. Commemorative Tee Shirt and Bib for first 100 registered.
Run with the Island Running Club, down the old Grumman Airfield and back on the Recreational Path to the finish.

Armed Forces Day 5K is the second new race this year of our goal to produce 4-6 new races in 2016 and an additional 4-6 in 2017. Join The Island Running Club and help us reach our goals.

You don't have to join the Island Running Club to participate in our group runs and races, but it helps us in our efforts to provide these services. Joining the club provides the funds we need to pay our membership to the Road Runners Club of America, it pays for the insurance we have to carry to provide these services  and it provides the seed money we need to manage new events. Join The Island Running Club
Join as an individual or family. Join as a veteran or active service in our Armed Forces. Join as a race director and show your support and we'll support you in promoting your races.

Peconic Pathfinders was formed to find the hidden, unmarked and lost paths and in the spirit of Dr. Robert Cushman Murphy, we support environmental conservation. In 1960 Dr. Murphy led a successful citizen initiative to establish the area as the first major natural park in the Suffolk County Park system. The 2,200-acre park was originally named the Peconic River County Park and renamed on what would have been his 100th birthday.   There are many paths, ponds and a river. The only marked trail today is the Pine Barrens Trail, AKA the Paumanok Path. Peconic Pathfinders has found the paths, cleaned them up and maintain them. We hope to be able to mark them soon. Depending on your status, now is the time to get back in shape or to get in better shape. There's not a lot of events going on in the winter. It's too wet and cold. Many of you travel to warmer climates in February. We now have many friends who live or travel to other parts of the country or other countries. We invite you to share with us on any of our Facebook groups. Tell your story and send photo's. Group photos are always fun. Tell us where you are running, walking or hiking.   You can participate in our workouts, training or hikes, using our races, training or hiking with the itsyourrace app. and share with us on Facebook.
