Long before the first Earth Day in 1970, Robert Cushman Murphy was warning us about Whaling. As A, world renown ornithologist, he was one of the first to raise the alarm to ban DDT. In 1960 Dr. Murphy led a successful citizen initiative to purchase 2200 acres as the first major natural park in Suffolk County. He published "Fish Shaped Paumanok" in 1964.
